Simon Gray’s novels, plays and diaries track some of the same world as Critical Quarterly over the past five decades. Playwright, novelist and diarist, Simon Gray was, until he took early retirement at 50, a university teacher of English at Queen Mary College, having spent six years at a Cambridge dominated by the figure of F.R. Leavis. His bother Piers wrote regularly for this journal, as does his wife Victoria. I wanted to mark Simon’s life in CQ not simply as a playwright whose work is essential to the understanding of the London stage in the same period as CQ nor even as a great diarist of a language which is rich in the genre but simply as a friend. - Colin MacCabe, Editor, Critical Quarterly Read a full list of the articles HERE Read an abstract of Jasper Britton's article HERE To subscribe to the journal go to the Critical Quarterly website |
